Federal regulations are in the works that will mandate more accountability for Financial Aid.  Sounds good at first, but may be a very scary thing.  The accountability is on the outcome, not the input.  If federal regulations can mandate which schools can get Financial Aid for students based on the rate of pay for the jobs those students get upon graduation....what is next?

If these changes are enacted, it may seem like a good thing at first through the eyes of nonprofits.  But it makes me very uneasy for higher education as a whole.  As the government seeks to regulate using the control mechanism of financial support and the metric of outcome attainment via job placement and salary, we are beginning to tread in uncharted waters.  This pending legislation will ultimately direct students to certain schools over others based upon governmental criteria.
