Approaching a new academic year can be quite daunting.  I'm in touch with many higher education executives who are barely treading water as they attempt to count the numbers of incoming students, deal with returning faculty and get the wheels of the administration rolling again from registration to financial aid.

It has been my experience that it is times like these that near-term horizon goals quickly are overshadowed by the perceived or real crises of the moment.  Executives can be focused on so much minutia that they disconnect from strategy and the big picture.

My encouragement? List not only your to-do's for the day, but more importantly, list your strategic priorities.  Be sure that the strategic priorities are the ones that get completed before you shut off the light at the end of the day.  Quite often the urgent to-do's are emotionally laden and will solve themselves within a day or two even without your intervention.

Remember, the focus toward and achievement of strategic priorities is why you are in your executive post.  If Education Strategy can assist in that process by doing some of the heavy lifting for you - give us a call.
